Tom Beers – Mandolin, Guitar, Bouzouki, Hammered Dulcimer and Vocals.
Tom has been playing acoustic music in the Baltimore-Washington area for more than 30 years. Most notable, he has worked with Frontier Justice, a progressive bluegrass band with swing, blues, jazz, and “dawg” influence and later, 12 years with Jericho Bridge. Tom skillfully plays mandolin in the group but also has a strong guitar background and will venture into the swing idiom or lay down blazing guitar leads. Occasionally, he will enter the Celtic and New England world by playing hammered dulcimer.
Colleen Craven – Vocals, and Guitar , Bouzouki
Colleen began playing music at the age of 8 when a family member left an old guitar sitting out. Her musical influences include James Taylor, the Beatles and most of the music from the 60’s and 70’s. She is competent with many styles from Celtic to Classic Rock infusing her unique vocal qualities to the group’s overall sound. Colleen also maintains an active teaching studio in Harford County, MD.
Roger Cline – Vocals, Lead Guitar, Mandolin, Mandola, Bouzouki
“I got my first guitar in 1967, a Teisco Del Ray, which I still have, took some lessons and within a few months, joined the band, Sounds Beyond.” Roger, who has played in various bands along the way, found himself also picking up and playing mandolin and banjo. However, his smooth intricate guitar style is part of what gives Free Range Blue its flare. Influenced by Doc Watson, Johnny Cash, Eric Clapton, and Tony Rice, Roger also composes and performs his own original material.
Dave Duerling – Bass
In March of 65 I had saved enough to buy an eclectic guitar. My choice was between a four pickup 6 string or a 2 pickup bass. A school mate was putting together a garage band and needed a bass player so I picked the bass and never stopped playing. I played in lots of local bands throughout the years crossing paths with fellow players like Roger Cline. Eventually Roger and I wound up at the same church and playing in the worship team together. More recently played some special events with Tom Beers and Colleen Craven. When asked if I would be interested in joining Free Range Blue there was NO hesitation on my part.
